If your talking about compressing a hard drive, I only use it if necessary as it will slow down your PC, if you need storage space and ard not willing to remove unwanted files / programs, then compress, Optimising is a better option as is re-aligns your drive to create space. Norton 360 uses it and so does System Mechanics
